Universitas Islam Negeri Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon Prepares International Internship Program in Japan
Cirebon, March 12, 2025 – Universitas Islam Negeri Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon (UINSSC), through the International Office & Partnership Center, successfully held a preparatory meeting for the implementation of the international paid internship program, which will be conducted in Kanazawa, Japan, starting in the middle of this year. The meeting was held virtually via Google Meet on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:45 AM (WIB). The meeting was attended by the Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ayus Ahmad Yusuf; the Head of the International Office at UINSSC, Lala Bumela, Ph.D.; the Head of the International Department from the International Cultural Communication Center Malaysia (ICCCM), Mr. Ivan Chabibilah; and ICCCM’s partner based in Vancouver, Canada, Ms. Lina Suhairy.
The meeting began at 10:00 AM with an opening address and presentation from Lala Bumela, Ph.D., as the Head of the International Office at UINSSC. In her remarks, Lala explained that this internship program is part of the university's internationalization efforts. The program is designed to provide students with direct exposure to Japanese work culture, expand their international networks, and enhance their professional skills in a global environment. Moreover, the program is aimed at supporting the university’s goal of achieving excellent accreditation for its academic programs.
Ms. Lina Suhairy from ICCCM then presented the detailed mechanism and technical aspects of the internship program. According to her, the program will be held in Kanazawa, Japan, a modern rural area known for its beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural heritage. Kanazawa was chosen as the destination because it offers a conducive environment for students to learn about Japanese work culture while enriching their cross-cultural experiences. The internship will last for one full semester (approximately six months) and can be converted into 20 credits (SKS).
Several requirements must be fulfilled by students who wish to participate in the program. These include obtaining a passport, securing a Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK), providing a health certificate, and demonstrating English proficiency at the intermediate to upper-intermediate level (B1–B2). Ms. Lina also emphasized that this is a paid internship program, where each participant will receive a monthly allowance of IDR 10 million. Additionally, the host company will generally provide accommodation in the form of dormitories for the interns. If accommodation is not provided, participants can rent housing at an estimated cost of IDR 4–5 million per month.
During the discussion session, Vice Rector I, Dr. Ayus Ahmad Yusuf, expressed his full support for the program. He emphasized that this initiative is a strategic step toward broadening students’ perspectives and strengthening UINSSC's position at the global level. Dr. Ayus also stated his readiness to personally visit the internship site in Kanazawa, accompanied by the Head of the International Office, Lala Bumela, Ph.D., and ICCCM’s partner, Ms. Lina Suhairy. He hopes that this program will not only enhance students’ competencies but also serve as a platform for introducing Islamic values to the international community in Japan.
Furthermore, ICCCM expressed hope that the internship program could be integrated with the International Community Service program. This would create opportunities for further collaboration and strengthen UINSSC's position in the field of international cooperation.
As a follow-up to the meeting, Ms. Lina Suhairy will directly coordinate with Mr. Matsui, a partner based in Kanazawa, to discuss the technical details of the program and the readiness of the host company in Japan. The outcome of this coordination will serve as the basis for finalizing the program and opening participant registration in collaboration with the International Office & Partnership at UINSSC.
